Circular saw blades are identified by size and number of blade teeth, as well as what material they’re designed to cut. The more teeth on a blade, the smoother and slower that blade will cut.

General woodwork benefits from a combination blade. These blades have large teeth that leave a rough cut and can be used to cross-cut or rip wood with the grain.

For long cuts with the grain, use a ripping blade. (Do not use a ripping blade with plywood. Use a cross-cut blade or a hollow-ground plywood blade.)

For some metals and most plastics, choose blades made of plastic or non-ferrous material.
