What should I consider in a leaf blower?
|
|
A leaf blower is a versatile machine that can make the work of clearing fallen leaves and other yard debris easier. You can blow your leaves to your compost pile, or blow them into a pile on a tarp and scoop them into bags. They are convenient to clean sidewalks, driveways, patios and garage floors of debris. And many handheld models allow you to reverse the airflow and suck up leaves and debris. Some models even have a mulching feature. If your leaf blower has a vacuum capability, use it to suck up leaves from bushes and around the foundation. Doing so will eliminate an inviting winter refuge for rodents.
When buying a leaf blower, consider the following:
- First you need to decide if you want a blower or combination blower/vac.
- Then you'll need to decide between gas powered or electric.
- Gasoline powered leaf blowers are typically more powerful, but they also vibrate more and are noisier. The engine should be powerful and easy to start if you choose a gasoline model.
- Electric blowers are quieter and lighter, and they vibrate less. Do you live in a busy neighborhood where a quieter unit would be appreciated? Some electric blowers require a cord, which can restrict your movement. Others have rechargeable batteries.
- And lastly, consider the weight of the unit because you are going to be carrying it around your yard.
