Westlake Ace Hardware refurbishes the Cherry Street House kitchen, dining room and sunroom with fresh paint in exciting colors, refinished furniture and other improvements

KANSAS CITY, Mo., (April 2, 2014) – Spring is finally here, and to celebrate the brighter days ahead, Westlake Ace Hardware has partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City (RMHC-KC) to refurbish the kitchen, dining room and sunroom at the Cherry Street House (2501Cherry Street).

April 8-10, a team of volunteers from Westlake will repair walls, paint, refinish furniture and woodwork, provide a deep cleaning, and install new cabinetry hardware to create a lively and fun new atmosphere for the residents of the RMHC-KC. The design for the refurbished spaces was created by Ace’s Design Expert Katie Reynolds and will feature cheerful pops of turquoise, orange, citrus yellow and cobalt blue to create a happy and bright oasis. Framed art from current and past Cherry Street House guests and other accessories will complete the look and add a personal touch to the spaces.

Media Day on April 9

The RMHC-KC Cherry Street House (2502 Cherry Street in Kansas City, Mo.) will be open to media from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, April 9. It will be a great opportunity to see the Westlake volunteers hard at work refurbishing the kitchen, dining room and sunroom. Representatives from RMHC-KC and Westlake Ace will be available for comment, as well as Ace’s Design Expert Katie Reynolds. “We are thrilled that Westlake Ace Hardware offered to assist us in refurbishing and redecorating the rooms at the Cherry Street House,” said Holly Buckendahl, CEO of RMHC-KC. “Our houses are continuously full and the kitchens and dining areas are subject to considerable traffic and wear. Because of that, the support Westlake is providing to us and the expertise they will deliver is both necessary and deeply appreciated.”

Tom Knox, CEO of Westlake Ace Hardware, added, “The work the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City does to provide families of critically ill children support and give them a comfortable home-away-from-home is inspiring. We are honored to be able to assist them and provide a fresh, new update to the house. Hopefully, in some small way, the work we’re doing helps make the lives of the families they serve less stressful during a difficult time.”
