Westlake Ace Hardware recently hosted its annual Fan Drive for The Salvation Army, raising more than $50,000 nationally

KANSAS CITY, Mo., August 8, 2017 – Westlake Ace Hardware recently partnered with The Salvation Army for a fan drive to benefit their local communities and help those in need beat the summer heat. In the span of just 18 days, Westlake’s customers donated more than $50,000 to the charity. That money was used to purchase more than 3,300 fans.

Westlake kicked off the fan drive with a donation of 500 fans. Following the kickoff, each of Westlake’s store locations asked customers to donate at the register. For a $5 donation, one ‘fan blade’ could be given, $10 provided two ‘fan blades’, $15 for ‘three blades’ or $20 for the ‘entire fan.’ Westlake turned the donated funds into fans by giving the fans at cost to The Salvation Army

"Families are facing the hottest summer in years. Recent floods and storms have destroyed equipment. Seniors need updated fans and air-conditioners to protect medications and prevent electrical fires in their home. Westlake and their customers have become a lifeline to our low-income citizens who need these fans," says Major David Harvey, Salvation Army Divisional Secretary. "We are grateful for their example of giving hope to their neighbors."

“Our store managers and employees did an amazing job of working with their local Salvation Army chapters and volunteers to make this a big success,” said Joe Jeffries, President and COO, Westlake Ace Hardware. “The fan drive is a great way for us to give back to the communities where we do business. We are very happy with the results and the fact that we’re able to help so many people.”

The fan drive began several years ago in just one store in Hutchinson, KS and has since evolved to become one of Westlake’s largest chain-wide community service projects.
