Asian Style Baby Back Ribs

Put a sweet and tangy spin on the everyday baby back ribs.

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 pounds pork baby back ribs
  • 4-1/2 teaspoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons thawed pineapple juice concentrate
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon stone-ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh gingerroot
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • Chopped green onion

Grilling Instructions:

  • Pat ribs dry and lay them in a container large enough for the rack to lay flat. Combine the molasses, garlic salt, onion powder and Worcestershire sauce. Pour marinade over ribs, coating completely. Let rest at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results. Turn ribs over occasionally to allow marinade to soak in.
  • When your ribs have marinated enough, stand your ribs (bone side down) in your Weber rib rack. Place your rack over direct medium low heat, making sure it is not over a direct flame. Let the ribs grill covered (at about 325 degrees F, if your grill has a thermometer) for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until meat is tender and has pulled back from the ends of the rib bones. Periodically swap the positions of the ribs in the rib rack for even cooking. NOTE: Do not open the grill for the first 30 minutes.
  • While ribs are grilling, in a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, pineapple juice concentrate, vinegar, hoisin sauce, ketchup, lemon juice, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, ginger and garlic. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes, or until slightly thickened. Stir occasionally.
  • Once ribs are cooked, for a final 8-12 minutes, uncover the grill and brush the ribs frequently with additional glaze. Serve remaining glaze on the side. Garnish completed ribs with onion. Yield: 2 servings.
