How should I care for my chrysanthemums during the winter season?

Protecting your mums from the effects of winter is essential for their survival. In late November or early December, once the ground becomes frozen, cut back your plant (two to three inches). Then you’ll want to apply a four to six inch layer of mulch over the top. You can use straw, pine needles, or any other mulching material.

NOTE: It is not encouraged that you use leaves for mulching purposes, as leaves tend to pack solid when wet.
