What is the difference between garden chrysanthemums and florist chrysanthemums?

The difference between a garden and a florist chrysanthemum is in its roots. Garden mums produce shoots and stolons (roots) that enable the plant to survive year after year. Florist mums, on the other hand, produce few or no stolons, and are easily killed in the winter. These are the mums you find in grocery stores and floral shops all year round.
