TRANSCRIPT

You’re walking along your driveway or through your garage, and that’s when you notice them: cracks in the concrete. It always feels like such a big deal. And sometimes they are. Cracks in a concrete foundation, for instance, can be serious. But often all it takes to repair concrete cracks is a little time and one of these. Before you start sealing up the cracks, you’ll need a wire brush to clean out dirt, loose concrete and grass. This will give you a clean, smooth surface. If your surface is oily or extremely dirty, be sure to pick up some concrete cleaner.Once everything is clear of debris, it’s time to start your repairs. For horizontal surfaces like driveways, you’ll want to start by partially filling the crack with sand. Once that’s done, you’re ready for your crack seal. For minor cracks in vertical surfaces you won’t need sand, but you will need a caulk gun and a utility knife for your repair caulk. For larger vertical cracks, you’ll need to use a cement based repair product and a pointing trowel or similar tool to apply it and then compact the fill and feather the edges. Whether you’re filling horizontal or vertical cracks, you just need the right products and a little time. If you have any more questions about crack repair, visit your local Westlake Hardware store.
